This unusual building is situated on almost 5 acres of green space in the middle of the city. Only a few miles from downtown Richmond, or the Fan District or Scott’s Addition, Barton Heights is right in the center of it all. With an expansive lawn to have a picnic on, or the bamboo forest to explore, you don’t feel like you are in the middle of the city but rather in your own enchanted world.
The building is completely renovated, and all the systems are new. Every effort was made to incorporate 21st century luxury and energy efficiency without giving up the character and quality of this historic property. All of the apartments have central air-conditioning, a dishwasher, ceiling fans, custom cabinetry, and ceramic tile bath floors. Everyone has their own storage locker in the basement. There is an onsite laundry facility and ample onsite parking.
There is a superintendent living onsite to keep the property looking its best and also provide timely assistance. Most apartments have hardwood floors, and many have an ice maker. Ten have granite counter tops. Three of the units have custom showers. Three open onto the wrap around porch. No two are the same.
Cannon Creek Park, and its bike path, the Cannon Creek greenway, are just outside your front door. There are plans to build a bike pump track at Richmond Henrico Turnpike and Vale St., just one block away. The City is currently working on connecting the greenway to the Cap to Cap bike trail and future plans are in the works to run the other end of the bike path all the way to Ashland.
There is a spring on the property that is found on a map from 1795, called Mitchell’s Spring. It filled the old watering trough on Richmond Henrico Turnpike, but now it is used to flush all our toilets. All 21 toilets in the building utilize the grey water and help conserve our natural resources.
